Wait, Deniers Of Death Can Turn Into Ash!
Nightingale Made Us More Paranoid!

After Nightingale leaves, Kassegore starts to strap a body on his back per the plan to disguise that the Goblin is gone. Gundmond finds us a route and Artivan hands Salvator a quiet potion.

There is a knock on the door. Ivan heads towards it as Artivan and I ready our weapons. After getting a code, Ivan opens the door to a woman. As the woman walks in, Artivan says, “Who the hell are you?”

She responds, “I’m called Jezebel Stone.” Salvator and Jezebel exchange greetings, after which Salvator turns to Artivan and says, “Do you remember when I was gone those three days?” Artivan replies yes. Salvator informs us that she was the reason why and she has been my contact.

Artivan seems to accept this and we find out from Jezebel that they moved the Goblin to the prison. We quickly come up with a new plan. The first part is for Jezebel to verify the movement, the second part is to find the person in charge of the passwords and get them – so that we can get into the office at the mansion to get the passwords for the prison, the third is to go to the mansion and get the passwords and last part is to place Kassegore under arrest and start a fight between the Inquisitors and Soldiers.

Jezebel states that a high level officer might be at the Inn, so Gundmond finds us a way through the sewers in order to get us there quietly. Gundmond and I are in the lead and after a bit I find signs of a chimera, the Maggot hounds. I inform Artivan of this and we quickly continue on, without any problems. As we are walking Gundmond starts asking about the hounds and Artivan quietly answers as best he can and then he sends Gundmond to me.

We get to the exit and Jezebel heads on up to the Inn and I backtrack to keep an eye out for the chimera. Gundmond asks me about the hounds and I tell him about these hounds and some of the others that I have come across. I also let him know that Grak would have more information. As Gundmond gets excited about this I motion him to be quiet and send him back to the rest of the group. Several hours pass and I start to hear sounds that indicate that the hounds have found our trail, I head back to Artivan and tell him that the hounds should be here shortly.

I find out that Gundmond has found something that he would like to look at. I mention that unless it’s on the way back, that we really can’t take the time to look at it right now. He states that it is. We get a note that says that Jezebel was going to see about distracting this guy for a while longer, however there are the passwords. It looks like they are good through tomorrow.

We quickly head there and find out that the spot is actually a hidden tunnel. We find the way through, right before the hound rounds the last corner. Kassegore and Artivan make their stand just on the hidden side of this tunnel. I head further down and poke my head around the corner and see zombies.

I turn back and sign that we have zombies as I see the hound come through. Artivan and Kassegore quickly take out the hound.
I take a shot at the closest zombie managing to wound it. Salvator moves up and shoots the other zombie also wounding it. Salvator and I start to hear chanting and let the others know. Artivan, Kassegore and Gundmond move forward.

The forward one attempts to shoot Kassegore, the other manages to blast Kassegore and wound him. The snarl that comes out of Kassegore’s mouth is more The Beast than Kassegore. Ah good, the Beast came out to play.

Salvator shoots a zombie, wounding it and then moves up to The Beast and casts deflection on him. The Beast moves towards a zombie and swings. Gundmond moves forward to help the Beast. I take a running start and then launch myself off of the Beast to stab the zombie, wounding it (I’m not sure if the Beast liked being used as a launching platform). Artivan moves forward and does the light thing that some Priests can do and manages to take out the first zombie with a swing.

Kassegore moves forward and grabs the other zombie’s attention with a tail slap, then uses the Kayakor to wound it. The Beast turns his head and hisses at the opening. I turn to Salvator and say, “Oh, it looks like I’m Maggpie today.”

There is a blackness that starts to surround The Beast. Salvator moves forward and casts something that removes it. Then there is a feeling of evil that starts to wash over Kassegore, Artivan, Salvator and myself. We are also seeing the regular rats and bats start to come back to this area.

I run forward and around a corner to see more zombies and some Deniers of Death. At the number I call out, “I might need some help.” Then I stab one of the new zombies and manage to break through a barrier that was up. Artivan moves up next to me and calls out, “You lot are never welcome in these lands!” Artivan brings the light again, which takes out several of the zombies and stuns a few others. The Artivan sends bolts to the three Deniers, two are taken out and the last one appears to only be stunned.

The last Denier shakes off the bolt and then casts Entangle on Artivan’s location and then attempts to escape. I manage to get out of the way of the ground attempting to eat us and charge after him. As I head off, Artivan tells me, “No quarter.” I nod to let him know that I understood, and manage to quickly catch up to the Denier. I take a swing with the Elvish blade, from Thules and am easily able to take him out. As I do a darkness comes out of him and bites me, causing damage.

I see further down the hallway that the Denier was attempting to run down an Archfire transportation box. I head back to Artivan and let him know what I found and that the Denier turned to ash. I’m not sure that Artivan realized exactly what I meant when I said that he turned to ash, we will be having a discussion on this later.

Artivan turns to start giving orders about searching this place to see what we can find, while Salvator walks up to me and heals me. As Artivan has given all the orders he turns around to do the same thing and frowns at seeing it already done (I think he had started casting before completing the turn).

Gundmond heads to the transporter and brings it along, as he is doing this we have the other two hounds finally catch up to us and we quickly take them out as well. Gundmond finds out that there were plans to make some slug bats as well, but the person in charge had to leave suddenly to the North. It seems to be the place that Cairos had mentioned Felosia and Maeve had headed towards. We continue back to the warehouse.

Yes! We Are Heading Back To Stoon!
No, I Can't Take Out The Bridge.

A blizzard hits Sog and at the start of it, Nightingale advises that we should strive to keep the roads in town clear. A day or two later, Artivan storms out of his office, demanding the usual suspects. As I was the only one in the common area at the time, I head out to find several of the officers.

I find Kassegore and Maggpie together, no doubt plotting the down fall of the Prelacy. Salvator and Gudmund are near the Inn. I tell each group that Artivan needs all of us in his office. I take the fastest way back and the others follow slowly. On the way, Kassegore finds a new Dregordian Sorcerer by the name Hrothgar Volsung and brings him as well.

Artivan asks who he is and what he does. Hrothgar introduces himself and says that he blows stuff up. Artivan is a bit confused by this and after a few moments, we find out that the new Dregordian is a Sorcerer. Salvator says, “If he’s anything like Cairos, then the statement of blows things up is correct.”

Artivan tells us that he had a visitor that brought us a new mission for once this blizzard ends. We are to be sneaking into Stoon to rescue a Goblin. Artivan starts grumbling about this group not being sneaky and Maggpie pouts at this. We quickly realize that Kassegore and Maggpie are the only ones who speak fluent Camonere.

We decide to do daily meetings in case the blizzard eases and we get the go ahead. After a few days, Roc-tar come in and tells us that the potions that were found on the Prelacy forces that attempted to burn down Sog, were disguise. Artivan states that this will help with part of the mission but that it doesn’t help with the sneaky part. Roc-tar volunteers to make and give the group stealth potions.

Shortly afterwards, Nightingale comes in and gives Artivan, Salvator, Maggpie and Gudmund healing potions. I ask if they are for light or emergency wounds. She indicates that they are for emergency wounds, just in case.

Maggpie has been put in charge of getting more information that may be needed. I spend the time learning more words in Camonere.

Artivan comes out of his office a few days later and tells us that the mission is for us to sneak in the front gates and then meet a contact in a warehouse to get to the spot where they are holding Knobbily, a Goblin strataest that has been working with the Prelacy. We grab some of the Prelacy uniforms that we have acquired over the siege of Thules. As the uniforms are being assigned, I find that mine shows a commander insignia on it. Artivan states that he doesn’t want any one as an officer that cannot speak the language fluently. I remove the insignia. As we start the disguise ourselves, Gudmund points out that the Prelacy has been “hiring” Dwarfs, so it is decided that we are going to leave him be and load him up with the rest of our equipment.

The plan is that Salvator is going in as an Inquisitor, Maggpie as the leader, I as the leader’s guide (looks like I’m going to be saying as little as possible for this mission). Maggpie points out at this that I need to act like Gunther, I slowly smile at him. And the last members are going as regular soldiers.

We head out Kassegore, Maggpie and I are scouting ahead and its not too long before we find a patrol. The patrol is nine strong and the scouts look scared. Maggpie signals to head back, as he was using Ranger sign I send back “yes” in Camonere. Maggpie looks confused at this until I start moving back. Maggpie, before following, signs to Kassegore to hide and trap. Kassegore hides well.

After letting Artivan and the others know, we make a plan to attempt to bluff our way through. Hrothgar takes one of the potions. Artivan saying that this is our chance to get this right.

As the patrol stops us, speaking in Galean, Maggpie challenges the patrol and the language they are using. As this starts to get heated, Salvator walks up near Maggpie. The lieutenant backs down at Salvator’s station and states that they had orders to stop everyone and to only speak in Galean. Maggpie covers up our slip by stating that we hadn’t gotten the new orders as we are from Thules.

The patrol lets us pass and we move on. After the potion has worn off we see that one of that patrol has followed us. Salvator shoots to stun him. The scout shakes off the hit and blows a horn. We find out later that Kassegore had stayed hidden at this to surprise the others that will be coming at the sound.
Salvator, Artivan and I keep a look out to see if more patrols are going to respond to the sound.
The other eight move towards us in a hurry. Kassegore sneaks forward to the group and I think that he didn’t like the idea of sneaking around as the three all die at the first strikes he does. The first gets a head butt, the second one gets the tail slap and the third gets the Kayakor. The last one does manage to scream as he goes down.

Gudmund drops the packs and runs forward to hit the scout that had followed us, stunning him.

Maggpie drops his disguise and flies over to the rest of the group. One soldier takes a swing as Maggpie lands, scratching the armor. Maggpie hits two of the soldiers and as they seem stunned by the hit says, “You should have stayed on patrol.”

Hrothgar moves forward and casts Bolt at the scout taking him out.

The two soldiers shake off Maggpie’s hit and one again attempts to damage Maggpie. Maggpie’s armor is going to need some patching. The other attempts to run away.

Kassegore moves up and swinging the Kayakor again takes out another soldier out. As Kassegore attempts to move forward again, the last soldier manages to hit Kassegore and stun him.
The last soldier moves forward and Maggpie manages to stun him and then does a full attack taking him out.

It is decided to search the patrol to see what we could find out. We find the orders showing that they are indeed supposed to be speaking in Galean and to stop everyone. Salvator takes the signal horn.

We finally get near Stoon without any other problems. We decide to wait till night fall to do the sneaking in. We manage to find an abandoned bear cave to do casting. As we wait for night fall, Artivan explains that as he wants to save others we can’t go around killing every Prelacy in Stoon (I think this part was for Kassegore). Artivan turns to me and again tells me that we cannot take the bridge. The others look confused at this. Artivan starts to go into a long explanation and ends up saying that it’s my want, kind of like Kassegore’s want to turn the Prelacy into bait.

It is decided that Artivan would be the one casting, to save the other’s ability to cast. Artivan then casts on Salvator Hrothgar, Gudmund and himself, something to make them all stealthy. Artivan hands me the keys and has me scout the way. I get to the North gate and find the guard dead, just like we were told would happen. I signal for the others to head up.

Once inside, Artivan has Maggpie and I to scout ahead and to give any warning if needed. We head for the warehouse and manage to make it there without any problems. Once inside we head downstairs were we see Ivan. I am surprised at this as I think Artivan was as well. Ivan is very happy to see us as he is practically yelling his greeting at Maggpie. Ivan starts to give everyone a great big hug.

Artivan attempts to get Ivan to be quieter, Ivan states that there is no worry that the patrols hearing him as the warehouse basement is well insulated and the patrols don’t come in anyways.

Ivan tells us that the other group managed to get us some items; maps, food and outfits. We find out that the Knobbily is being held in a Mansion. The group starts to discuss different ways to take out the Inquisitor and the other leaders –if possible that are also inside the Mansion. Artivan seems to like the plans, but only if we can pull this off without any loss of innocents.
Gudmund and I look at the map of the sewers and I find out that the Prelacy has blocked some of them off, so we no longer have an easy escape route. Gudmund starts to make plans to get the best way there, landslides or something for a way to get some Goblinesh out and at the very least to get us all the way out.

After a few hours Nightingale shows up and hands Artivan a letter from Cairos. It seems as if Cairos is the currently highest ranking officer in Sog as the others are out on assignments. Nightingale signs that Cairos was startled by a raven that turned in to a man that said we needed to rescue Knobbily’s family. Artivan has Maggpie and Hrothgar sneak out to help the group that is just outside the walls.

Nightingale's Bad Day
Wait! I Whistle When I Cry Now?

23rd of White Stag

Its been several days since the Prelacy tried to set fire to Sog. A blizzard has rolled through, on the rare occasion Artivan has several of us in his office. I make the suggestion that we strive to keep the roads clear in case there is another emergency. It wouldn’t be a good use of our resources to do so, but it would be an even worse idea to have Salvator or Artivan keep boosting the strength of others in order to get to the emergency. Artivan likes this idea and has Cairos set up a rotation for us to do so.

Artivan has Roc-tar and I looking into the potions that the Prelacy had. After a few days Roc-tar goes and gives Artivan the findings. I’m not sure I helped much. Sometime later, Roc-tar comes back and says that he needs to make several stealth potions that are going to the group headed back to Stoon.

I head back and find out who will be going on the mission. Artivan, Salvator, Sky, Magpie, Kassegore, and Gudmond are those that are heading out. After finding this out I hand Artivan, Salvator, Magpie and Gudmond healing potions. Sky asks if they are the small heal or the extreme emergency heal, I sign that its the extreme emergency heal. She nods and I head back to the inn to help Roc-tar.

Roc-tar is happy to have the help, at least at first. I watch him make one of the potions and then start to make some of the others. It seems as if Roc-tar is very particular about the whole process. He caught me attempting to do two at once and started yelling at me about the explosive materials that I was handling and if I couldn’t keep to one at a time that I would cause an explosion in his lab. I stopped doing two at once and started to finish the first one. Roc-tar keeping a closer eye one me then started to yell that I was using bad ingredients and that I needed to get out.

I am very confused by the others complaining about the fact that potions explode. I have never had one explode nor had I ever heard of one exploding before. Father always stated that one needed to be careful, but that was due to the fact that some of the ingredients are expensive and rare.

As I headed out of the workspace, I see Vhen. He comes over and asks me what is wrong. I start to explain about not being able to go on missions and getting thrown out of the workspace. Halfway through reading the explanation, I see that Vhen is attempting to hide laughter. When I asked why he was laughing, he stated that all potions explode at one time or another while being made. I feel worse and Vhen starts to explain that there was a reason why all who make potions have a quiet place to make them. For some reason this just really upset me. I started crying so hard that I actually was making whistling noises.

As I didn’t want to upset the few other patrons or Joc-tar, I head out of the Inn. Vhen noticing that his explanations have just made it worse, follows me. He sent for or some of the children, that normally hang out around the Inn, must have gotten Felosia. For Felosia shows up shortly after I have left the Inn.

As I have yet to calm down and am still making a whistling noise, Vhen starts telling Felosia what the problem is. Felosia slowly walks me back to her room and waits out the tears. After I calm down a bit she starts telling me about a Goblin in the Ranger’s, Gibben Draxx. From the description, I realize that I did see him a few times while we were at Thul. Felosia goes on to tell me that several times, he has potions explode while making them. Its one of the reasons he has so little hair.

I still have some disbelief that this can happen, so Felosia tells me to wait and then leaves the room. She comes back with a Mission report from Sky. Its one of the first ones that she did, it mentioned that Gibben had handed her a potion and told her to break it on the water and to be careful. It looks like Gibben’s potions explode as he attempts to make new types of recipes instead of keeping to known ones. But reading how shocked and confused at the “mission” Sky was, it did cheer me up.

I head out of Felosia’s room, now knowing why she is the second in command of Sog.

The Mak Tarkesh officially thanks the Rangers and creates the Fire Fighters of Sog

Title: The Mak Tarkesh officially thanks the Rangers and creates the Fire Fighters of Sog

In a special Ceremony the Mak Tarkesh thanks the Rangers of Sog for their Heroic Saving of the city from an attempt by the Prelacy and Red Crusade of Camon to burn down Sog.

It has been discovered that for the past few weeks Prelacy Soldiers have been sneaking in to Sog disguised as Merchants selling a new “White Wash” as a sort of covering for houses that is was meant to protect the wood and keep it from drying out and becoming too brittle. In the Summer Months the substance was supposed to keep the wood from rotting. A local expert says that this is the purpose of a “White Wash” but the batches that the Prelacy Soldiers were selling had been alchemically tainted and transformed into the opposite effect, that is being easy to set aflame.

The weather had been dry and blisteringly cold when the Prelacy Soldiers that were disguised as Merchants put to the torch the spots that have been treated and running all over Sog doing so. With the amount of fire it was very improbable that the city wouldn’t burn down. Upon discovering the city burning in several spots the leader of the Grey Rangers, Artivan Galadrius, sprang into action to dispatch teams to save citizens from burning buildings and put out the flame. Very little damage was done despite the all too coordinated efforts of the Prelacy Soldiers. All due to the Grey Rangers. There were several Citizens of Sog that aided the Rangers and helped with their efforts.

The Day After the Event the Mak Tarkesh declared the Grey Ranger’s Heroes worthy of respect for their caring fast action. A select group of Sog Citizens have been Named the Volunteer Fire Fighting Team and given honors for helping to Save the Day.

Bartog, one of the Chosen to fight fires but not their Leader had this to say, “It was good helping the Rangers and the Angel. Bartog will do what ever it takes to keep Sog from being eaten by fire, Bartog is Proud!”

On a Side Note the Mak Tarkesh is going to meet with the leaders of the Rangers to work out a proper security plan to make sure that Sog is not infiltrated such as this in the future.

Magpie's Journal: 3123, 20th of White Stag

Prelacy Firestorm
3123, 20th White Stag

As the Rangers were helping clean up from the party the night before in the Heroes Hart Inn a man came in with a barrel and called out “Delivery!”

Everyone looked up at this and stared at the barrel. Kassegore tilted his head to the side and asked “of what?”

The man looked surprised but declared “Firebeard Ale.”

Kassegore stood while drawing his Kaiakore with a “Who sent you?” and the man turned to bolt out the door. Magpie lunged across the room and grabbed the man, putting his Arcblade to the man’s throat and turning him back to the others, handing him over to Kassegore. Kassegore starts questioning the man as Magpie joins Artivan in looking over the barrel and they determine it is an Arcfire bomb. The man passes out in fear and pees himself as Kassegore lets go of him in disgust and Magpie called out that he heard a ticking from inside. At this Artivan, Sky, Magpie, and Salvatore wheel the bomb out the door and Artivan and Salvatore invoke the power of the light to increase Magpie’s strength and give him deflection. As Salvatore starts to cast deflection on Sky magpie hears the ticking speed up and yells “Stay here!” Grabbing the barrel himself Magpie flew straight up and tossed the barrel at the last second.

The barrel exploded with a massive bang that flung Magpie straight down to the ground though he managed to barely keep from slamming into the earth as he landed on his hands and knees. Magpie and the others walked back inside and with smoke and ash marking Magpie and rising off of him he said into the room “that was fun.”

Kassegore called out to him from next to the man who had delivered the barrel “Aevakar, you will choose your death well!” Artivan then asked Magpie to join Gudmond outside to look for anyone suspicious.

Magpie and Gudmond spot smoke rising in a couple of other places from the city and Magpie called back into the room “There are fires in three other places throughout the city! One at the wall by the industrial area, one in the residential area, and one near headquarters!”

Artivan split the Rangers into three groups, sending each group out to a fire. The day was then filled with frantic insanity as the Rangers ran or flew from fire to fire, leading those citizens they found in firefighting, rescuing trapped people, and catching the Prelacy soldiers who were running around town and starting the fires. Throughout the day the rangers had gathered locals to them and had developed some skills in their firefighting capability, most notably a goblin named Battog who as night fell managed to get carried by Sky back to the Hart. Artivan and Magpie had noticed throughout the day that the one area they didn’t have to go to for firefighting was the Heroes Hart Inn. As the last of the fires from the day were put out the Rangers started to converge on the Inn, to find it on fire.

Kassegore went into a rage as he saw the Hart in flames and burst into the inn to start slaughtering the Prelacy soldiers he saw inside starting fires. As Artivan ran in after him one of the Prelacy drank a potion and vanished. Sky dropped Battog on the roof telling him to clear the fires up there as she flew into the upper level and ran through to the stairs that led down into the Hart’s main room and basement, noticing as she gets to the stairs that someone she can’t see disappeared down into the basement.

Salvatore moved into the tavern and started sending bolts out to whittle down the Prelacy soldiers who were starting fires as he headed for the bar. Artivan after surveying the room noticed that the one who looked to be in charge was in a corner starting new fires with a glance and giggling. He cried out “Right you Prelacy bastards! I’m the one you want! Right here, and right now!” He then cast three bolts as well, taking out more fire starters and moved towards the leader calling out a challenge to him.

Magpie told Battog to scream if he needed help and he flew inside and launched himself across the tavern to start taking out fire starters with his swords as Gudmond tipped a barrel of water out of the kitchen and over one corner of the tavern, extinguishing one of the fires. As some of the fires grow Sky called out from the stairs that someone is in the basement and asks if we can handle the main room. Artivan screamed at her to go deal with the basement as he unloads more bolts into the room and cuts down another pair of fire starters to growl at the leader “You will have no escape today!”

The leader then tipped a potion back and vanished, running past sky down the stairs into the basement. As Sky gives chase after him, having noticed him but not managed to hit him, a pair of the Prelacy soldiers got away and the rest are killed in one fashion or another. As the Rangers upstairs manage to start putting fires out Artivan gets in the stairs and closes the door so that there is no escape up the stairs for any invisible assailants. He then went downstairs to find that the last invisible assailant had been trapped at the bottom of the stairs and was laying on the ground mostly prone. Sky finished releasing Rok-tar and his staff as Artivan interrogated the dying leader.

Apparently the leader had taken poison in the hopes of not giving up too much information, but the other Prelacy soldiers who had been captured throughout the day managed to provide enough information that the Rangers were able to piece together a relatively full picture. This group of Prelacy had come from Stoon, and had brought a white-wash that they had peddled as a fire-retarder when placed on buildings. The potion had actually done the reverse and managed to let the Prelacy light the fires fast and then get away. Nightingale and Rok-tar then started providing the town with Rok-tar’s potion called “scrubbing bubbles” to hopefully start cleaning the white-wash off of the buildings throughout Sog.

Training Games
3123 White Stag, 14th

Cairos looked up from his reports as Artivan walked out of the office muttering about people skills and how he should try to gain some. Cairos shook his head and looked down at the diagram he had next to the reports he had just finished. Things had been very calm since the incident with the new Builder faction, and maybe now was the time to start the project he had been planning. If anything were to happen in this area as an attack, the people in Sog were going to be caught in the middle as they had been in Stoon. He had read the reports that the others had written about that time and was concerned about the lack of organization in the rout from Stoon. Cairos nodded to the empty room and picked up the diagram and notes. Now was the time.

Magpie was carrying his stolen suit of Arcfire Plate Mail and some tools over his back as he saw Artivan walking out of Ranger headquarters. Kassegore tried to stop him to ask a question and Artivan snapped something Magpie couldn’t make out and pushed past him. This wasn’t an unusual sight but Kassegore seemed surprised so Magpie walked over. “What was that about?” Magpie knew his Dregordian was horrible but also knew that the more he spoke it with Kassegore and The Beast that it was improving.

Kassegore looked Magpie over and while he seemed slightly interested in the sack of armor he gestured with his head towards Artivan and replied in the same tongue “Artivan is going to try and learn speaking skills and how to persuade people to do what he wants instead of just yelling at them.” Kassegore let Magpie see a rare grin “5 silver says he hits the first person he tries to talk to.”

Magpie knew that the grin was because of Kassegore wanting to see Artivan strike out at something and he grinned back having that image in his mind. “Sounds good to me.” They followed Artivan as he started to wander towards the local church of light. Artivan kept back from people mostly, walking up to Sky and Salvatore as Salvatore coached Sky through getting over her fear of missing limbs. Artivan stood by and listened as Salvatore discussed what having a missing limb means to a person, and how it reduces their capabilities. Artivan suggested Ma’ani when Salvatore had her start approaching people with missing limbs and she seemed to be getting better at being near such things as long as she wasn’t surprised by them.

Kassegore turned to Magpie as Artivan looked over at them and handed over the coin. “Worth it. But I am certain he will hit something before the week is out.”

As Artivan walked over Magpie grinned “I won’t take that bet.” Artivan managed to reach Magpie as Kassegore walked off and raised his eyebrows. “We had a bet going on whether you would punch the first person you tried to interact with or not.” A look of surprise followed by slight disdain/disbelief crossed his face and it was Magpie’s turn to raise his eyebrows. Artivan looked from Magpie’s face to Kassegore’s retreating back and snorted, shaking his head as he nodded and continued down the street towards the church.

Magpie walked down to the Heroes’ Hart, following Kassegore’s path, and claimed a table in a back corner of the tavern. As he started unloading his bag he saw Kassegore talking animatedly with Cairos and one of the Goblinesh Leaders about some sort of training games for the local populace to get them prepared for battle whenever it comes down on Sog, or at least get some of them capable of leading the populace. By the time they left to start putting these plans into action and gathering people for their training games Magpie found that he had a helper in setting up his armor. Grak, the Builder who had come back with Sky was looking over the armor he had. While Magpie kept focusing on the Arcfire pieces and the Crysalites, Grak kept pushing Crysalites aside and pointing him to focus on the actual armor pieces. After Magpie and Grak had gotten all of the pieces lined up where they should be Grak made a point to get Magpie’s attention on the non-shiny-Crysalite portions of the armor.

Grak got fed up with Magpie after a short time and left once everything was set up. Magpie shook his head as Grak walked off. He knew from some of Sky’s comments that Grak had managed to get her interested in using Arcfire equipment and that she seemed to want to follow Magpie into an Arcmancer role. Magpie’s mind filled with images of Aevakar flying into battle against Childer and Wing hunters, all wearing Arcfire armor and wielding Arcfire weapons. His brain summoned an image of an Arcfire bow and he shivered as he thought of the possibilities such a weapon could offer. Shaking his head to clear it of the images Magpie shoved that thought into the back of his mind to simmer while he glanced over his current project. He had turned his attention back to his work just in time to catch Nightingale trying to make off with one of his larger Crysalites and called her back over. He convinced her to give it back, promising her a shiny crystal once he had finished building the armor.

As Magpie worked on the armor, modifying pieces here and there to be lighter, removing metal from the back to provide spaces for his wings and adding entirely new pieces for his wings so that they were partially protected as well, he heard the trainees start to assemble outside. He heard Cairos tell the assembled to gather in the morning outside the Hart to begin training as Rok-tar held the door open to observe. Listening to the plans for these training exercises Magpie knew that they would make the perfect testing ground for his armor if he could get it assembled in time.

Rok-tar came over to Magpie as the locals had started to disperse through town back to their homes. “You planning to stay here and finish this tonight?”

Magpie looked up with a couple of wires and a slightly sparking Crysalite hanging from his lips. “Mp-phn-ghph” and he shrugged. Rok-tar laughed and told Magpie that he was locking up but that he could have one of the rooms upstairs if he needed to sleep, but that there was a new Dwarf in the closest room that Magpie wasn’t to bother. Magpie waved his acknowledgement and went back to work on the armor.

Come morning Rok-tar unlocked the front door and peered into the common room. As he opened some of the windows and moved through he noted Magpie sleeping in the same corner he’d been working in the night before. Rok-tar walked over and looked down on the armor laying on the table, letting out a low whistle. Magpie jerked awake, sending a shoulder guard flying into the table next to him. “Good morning Magpie. I see you’ve had a busy night.”

Magpie shook himself as Rok-tar picked up the shoulder piece and rubbed his eyes “yea. I was seeing everything coming together and felt that I shouldn’t stop.” He took the shoulder guard and laid it next to the rest of the pieces and stepped back with Rok-tar. He heard a shuffle behind them and turned to see Grak looking down on his work with a critical eye. Grak nodded and grunted something in his native tongue before patting Magpie on the shoulder and walking out of the tavern. “I do believe he needed my work to finish figuring out how to modify the armor for Sky.”

Rok-tar chuckled and headed towards the kitchen “Probably. Their kind hasn’t had to deal with wings too much I’d wager.” By the time Rok-tar brought out some food for Magpie to eat he found a newly equipped Magpie. The armor was black as a midnight sky with stars dotted over it, some bright Crysalites, some were shards of other gems, and some merely dots in the armor that made the armor appear as if the stars sparkling in it were really there. Magpie turned to face Rok-tar and he could see some constellations that he knew and spotted a Crysalite centered on his chest that appeared to replicate the moon and knew that this project had been a long time in the making. “And how long have you been at this?”

Magpie smiled and stretched his wings, the stars twinkling along the guards on his wing-bones. “I have been working on this, and admittedly the look of it more than the application, since we came north from the Siege of Thulls. I took the armor I modified off of an Arcmancer there when I took this blade.” He drew his Arcblade which Rok-tar immediately recognized despite the fact that the blade had been cosmetically modified to match the armor Magpie was wearing. “I’ve been collecting gems and Crysalites and studying some of the artisans, both locally and on our way north, to figure out how I could make these look like the night sky.” Magpie then looked at the food Rok-tar was holding. He sheathed his sword and sat at the table. “If I could eat before I join the group training I’d appreciate it.” As Rok-tar set the food in front of him Magpie handed him a gold coin “and thanks for letting me stay here to work on it last night.”

Rok-tar pocketed the coin and shrugged “It didn’t hurt me any to do so, and I am glad you managed to get that all put together finally. Should be fin watching you among the others today.” Magpie nodded as he dug into the food and Rok-tar walked away to get the tavern up and running.

Once he finished he took his plate towards the kitchen and one of the serving girls stopped him. “I’ll take that Hun, I heard what you said earlier so you get out there and show those Goblinesh a trick or two.” And she swatted him out the door. Magpie chuckled and took flight, spotting the gathering from the air he glided over to them and circling as the groups went through mock raids and combats against each other. When it looked like one group was finished for the moment Magpie dropped down in front of the groups and heard Cairos muttering “Why did I do this? Why did nobody stop me from doing this?” as he watched Kassegore intimidate his troops into the proper formation for a surprise strike on one of the other groups who was already taking on the other half of his forces on another side.

Magpie giggled “we wanted to gamble on the outcome.” Cairos looked at him “But it does look to be going very well and is working to get the locals organized and used to such things.” Cairos looked at Magpie then shook his head and walked down the hill to gather everyone for their final discussion and signing the locals up for repeat practices. Cairos apparently still thought that the training sessions were a good idea and seemed to be moving forward regardless of the outcome from this experiment. Though Magpie could see that the Goblinesh who had not participated in these Games had clearly been enjoying themselves. He spotted one Orc that he knew to be a proponent of giving military training to all Goblinesh nodding as he listened to Cairos from the crowd, and when his compatriots looked to leave the Orc nudged them and they all went down to sign up for Cairos’s regular training sessions.

Magpie took flight again as everyone dispersed and the Rangers all seemed to be heading to the Heroes Hart Inn. He dropped down next to Kassegore who was walking towards Ranger headquarters. “Questions I have for you, winged thief.”

Magpie shrugged at Kassegore’s blunt use of his previous profession. “It might be that I can answer them, but perhaps we should wait for these questions until we are somewhere more private?” Kassegore nodded and led the way into his office in Ranger HQ.

Kassegore then pulled out a list of businesses and locals and laid it down in front of Magpie. “These businesses and people have skills or supplies that we might be able to use but I need to know more about them.” Magpie nodded and looked over the list. He then spent a small portion of the afternoon editing the list Kassegore had to remove a few names and add a few more, all the while providing what information he knew he could share on some of his friends, but truly peaking Kassegore’s interest with information on competitors and other businesses that had bad relations with him because of the detail with which he could outline their operations in both the legitimate and illegitimate sectors.

Kassegore looked over the list and nodded before asking Magpie to accompany him in a few visitations on their way to the Hart. They stopped in a couple of the illegitimate businesses on their way and managed to solidify more support for the Rangers among them, and mend a few fences between them and Magpie so that those relations would continue to be positive. As they reached the Hart Kassegore asked if Magpie would assist with that in the future if he wanted to have a thief he could trust to help him with his underworld dealings and Magpie nodded, then winked and launched into flight up over the Hart.

Magpie flew in through the kitchen so that the serving maid would chase him out into the common room and grinned as the commotion of that brought everyone’s attention to the sparkling of his armor. He saw that Sky took one look at him then turned back to Grak. Surprised Magpie walked over to Sky and then noticed that Grak was trying to teach her the basics of Arcmancy.

Turning back to the inn Magpie spotted Kassegore drinking near the bar and walked over to him. He passed Artivan who was talking with a new Dwarf whom Magpie assumed to be the Dwarf Rok-tar had mentioned the night before about Valitor. When he got to Kassegore he could feel the Dregordian’s measuring stare. He stopped and drew his blades, to which Kassegore grinned freely and grabbed his Kaiakore. They jumped up onto the long table in the middle of the room and started a dance of blades and counters, proceeding to entertain everyone in the bar as they dodged and jumped, adding acrobatics to the combat of their performance. At the end of the fight it was clear that Magpie and Kassegore had come out of the fight evenly matched.

Cairos came out of a discussion at that point with Salvatore and came over to Magpie and Kassegore. Kassegore turned to him as he walked up “We managed to secure more support for the Rangers among a few local businesses” then he handed over the list to Cairos.

Cairos looked it over “this should up our financial capabilities greatly!” He noted Magpie’s peaked interest at this and turned the list over. They watched as he scribed a document that would give the Rangers of Sog a pay boost and would also give Kassegore a promotion. He then looked at Kassegore then looked back into the room. Magpie watched with a grin on his face as Cairos included Salvatore and Sky in his list of promotions. Then Cairos walked over to Artivan who was raising a toast and they watched Artivan sign the document before calling out a drink for everyone in the bar on him.

Magpie then walked over to Artivan and despite feeling a little fatigued from his fight with Kassegore challenged Artivan to a duel stating “I need to learn more varied fighting styles!” Artivan laughed at this and picked up a pot lid and a fire poker.

“Come at me then Magpie!” Magpie launched his attack and Artivan nimbly blocked, parried, blocked, then grabbed the front of Magpie’s armor and pulled him into a head-but. Magpie woke to the new Dwarf shoving a Dwarven Brandy down his throat and he sputtered as his head exploded with an instant headache followed by a dulling of the pain and its replacement with a state of drunkenness.

Letters to “Vhen the White” AKA Calming Thunder

Dear Calming Thunder, 20th Forest Dance

Myself and the other Masters do take some objection to you altering your name in this manner but understand that it can be difficult amongst strangers not used to our ways. We are glad to hear that you have not forsaken them for expediency and are a true brother of Kor. We are glad you have joined a worthy cause. It speaks highly of your character.
We have forwarded your request to the Ports of Kor’Divine and have obtained some records. Admittedly the information is scarce but hopefully it will guide you on this Quest of yours. I must admit that we were under the same impression as you with your assumption of Brinchie coloring patterns. We hope that you find where you belong and that where you belong is appreciated. I must admit that when you were little we had assumed that you would join the Fists of Kor. I have forwarded a request on your behalf for the ships in that area to several port cities. Also there were ships from the Malakar Dominion in the area around that time to but we are uncertain of their portage and this was from a report of a fisherman. There were no markings on the ship but the style of ship made it clear where they were from. I have dispatched some of the deep swimmers from the fishing crew to see if anything can be seen at the bottom of the sea, we are lucky that a Dregodian is a part of them. I am hopeful that they will find remnants from somewhere in the area, although it has been nearly 19 years or perhaps 20 by the time you get this message and information. I will send follow up letters.

May the Teachings of Kor guide you and your spirit to achieve fulfillment,

Master Thunderous Voice

Follow up Letter

Dear Calming Thunder, 31st Harvest Moons

We have found remnants of a ship! Their was not much left after so long and it was nearly overlooked. If it wasn’t for the strange shape of the coral reef that has grown there we would not have found it. In the Wrapped package is a piece of the coral that has grown over a crest of some sort. While we did not wish to disturb it we felt that it was Kor’s Will that you have it. I had an expert in Kor’Divine look at it and tell me where the crest could have been from. He informs me that the crest is from the royal family of Eon’Voltuh. The Deep Swimmers have also told me that there was some metal that was given back to the deep but the ship seems to have been sunk via combat with another ship. It is my belief that this ship was besieged by pirates. From where, I know not. I hope that this has helped you.

May the Teachings of Kor guide you and your spirit to achieve fulfillment,

Master Thunderous Voice

Copy of Letter Sent with a shipping captain that is heading to Eon’Votuh. Written in Korindian.__

Dear Shipping Brethren, 32nd, Harvest Moons

I am Master Thunderous Voice from the School of Kor near Re’Lore. It has been requested by one of my students to look into the registry of a ship that was sunk near our waters 18-19 years ago. The Student in question is a Brinchie by the name of Calming Thunder (now going by his childhood name of Vhen the White, among the outsiders) . His coloring is that of a white panther type with spots as of a leopard. He was found on our shores as a baby around the time that the ship sank and believes that his family was abord this ship. I have included some rubbings from a crest that was covered in coral by the Deep Swimmers that have found the ship in the approximate area he was found, or rather the shoreline closest to it. As you know family is very important and he as taken it upon himself to go to the outside world as you have but his is a Quest of belonging or a Quest of knowing one’s origins. As this is an important personal quest, I ask you to aide him in it by inquiring of the port authority if any ships bearing this crest were lost 19 years ago. We invite them to the site to recover what is left, provided that while on Korindia they follow our customs.

Thank you for your help in this matter. Send all information of this matter not to me but to “Vhen the White” in the Goblinesh Gather of Sog.

May the Teachings of Kor guide you and your spirit to achieve fulfillment,

Master Thunderous Voice

(Included are charcoal rubbings, 3 copies, of the crest. The rubbings are detailed enough to see the coral patterns and the crest, which was carved originally out of wood)__

The Graditued of Sog
24th White Stag, Early Afternoon while Sog is in a Blizard.

“Hello, Ranger Artivan!” a small middle aged orc woman comes into the Ranger’s Head Quarters.

“Evening Mam.” Replies Artivan without looking up from his paperwork that the Quartermaster Insists he look over for distribution of help in aide of rebuilding the town from it’s recent attack.

“I will just leave these here. I wanted to thank you for saving my live and the lives of my kin. I have baked some pies. From a recipie that I found in the paper. Modified a little. They are Cinnamon Apple Burbon Pies. Please share these with your friends.” as she sets down 5 large apple pies. This is when the smell of pastry has reached Artivan’s nose with it’s tantalizing smell of fresh baked apples and pastry.

“Mam, This is not necessary we were just-” Says Artivan getting cut off by a suddenly more stern Orc woman.

“I will have nothing of that talk. You folk are heroes. Take your due!” the old orc woman says taking on the tone of a scolding grandmother that will not take no for an answer.

“Yes, Mam.” Artivan says curtly acknowledging a powerful woman that only wishes him well.

“I know that you met my son Ivan. Thank you for sending him to me so that we could talk about his life. You look out for more than our lives but our hearts.”

“I didn’t send him to you. He came into my office exclaiming something, now I understand what.” as it dawns on him what the exchange was earlier in the week with Ivan picking him up and hugging him in a rough manner.

“Yes, Despite some of his life choices he is a good boy. He left that day, I know not where but that is not uncommon. I haven’t seen him for years before he stopped by earlier this week. But, I think that he has seen some light and is attempting to discharge a debt honorably. May the Silver Tree bless him.” and with that she leaves Artivan with his work.

“Carios, come in here.” calls Artivan. Placing one pie separate from the others.

“Yes, I am sorry that she didn’t have an appointment and that she snuck past me.”

“Carios, Never mind that now. Here take these 4 pies to the mess hall and inform the cook that these are to be served with dinner as a special gift from a citizen of Sog.”

“Yes, I will put it with the others.”

“Others?! Explain Carios.”
“There have been other gifts from the citizens of Sog, Breads, Pies, Pastries. One even brought in some Apple Scrumple, a potent brew to be sure. I have taken the liberty of securing you some of it and have strictly rationed the rest so as not to cause a problem.” Explains Carios.

“Hmmph, Kassagore is hiding things from me again as are you. You know I wont put up with any nonsense but something like this I would like to be informed.”

“Of course. Is that all? I need to go and take a look at some of Grumond’s plans for rebuilding.”

Artivan waves him off. “Bring me a plate and a fork.”

Sometimes the Leadership role does rankle a bit but it does come with perks, thinks Artivan privately.

After some pie has been consumed, a Raven flies into the window some how and transforms to a figure in a grey cloak with the hood up and obscuring his sight and distorting his voice.

“Stay your weapon, I am with the Black Lantern, Artivan Galdrius.” He says hastily. Hastily giving secret Black Lantern code phrases.

“I shall have to check later and verify properly. You could have made an appointment..” Grumbles Artivan.

“You of all people know better. I have a mission for you once this blasted snow lets up. My ‘Name’ is Blackwing. I have been sent on an important mission and your Rangers here need to come and help. As soon as this Blizzard lets up that is. I need you and your most talented and trusted Rangers to prepare for it. The plan is still taking form. In the mean time, get the Rangers that are ex-prelacy soldiers to familiarize themselves with how to accord themselves as Prelacy Soldiers. I shall be back with more details of the mission in a week or when this weather lets up. When I come back, You will have less than a day to get prepared and go.” and with that the “Blackwing” transforms back into a raven and flies out the window.

“’Bout time. Get me the Ususual Suspects in here, we have work to do! Carios! If those people aren’t here, get them.” Bellows Artivan. At lease this “Blackwing” let me have some pie first, thinks Artivan as he is already mentally working on what to say for the meeting.
